MISSION STATEMENT
The goal of the Purchase Free Library is to provide services and information to its expanding and varied community of users and to work to broaden, diversify, and educate the community.
ABOUT THE LIBRARY
We offer the latest books from your favorite authors, as well as box office movie hits. Free WiFi and friendly staff are available to help you with all your library needs.
The Library has a large selection of children’s books located in our colorful children’s section. We also host fun family-oriented programs that children of all ages can enjoy.
An after-hours bookdrop for books, audio, and DVDs is located by the front door.
LIBRARY HISTORY
From its beginnings nearly 100 years ago as a reading room within the Purchase Community House, the Purchase Free Library, officially chartered in June 1928 by the State of New York, has grown into a thriving independent library offering the intimacy and service of a small town library, as well as all of the benefits of being a member of the Westchester Library System, a network of 38 libraries with collective holdings of over 4 million books and other print materials, all available to our patrons via interlibrary loan.
We are not only a place for checking out the latest best sellers, we are also a place for children and adults to come together in a friendly setting. Despite our size, the impact the library has had on the Purchase community has been anything but small.
FRIENDS OF THE PURCHASE FREE LIBRARY
The Friends of the Purchase Free Library, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, supports the Purchase Free Library and encourages community involvement through the many programs it funds. All tax-deductible donations, payable to the Friends of the Purchase Free Library, are the sole source of funding for the Library’s extensive programming, including free passes to local museums.
