How do I apply for a library card?

If you live, work, or go to school in Purchase, Harrison, or West Harrison you are eligible for a card.

Library card requirements:

For Purchase/Harrison/West Harrison Residents- Photo ID and/or proof of address

For Employees- Photo ID and proof of employment and must provide home address.

For Students- Under 15, parent or guardian must either be present or fill out Children’s Library Card application. All other students must have Photo ID and/or College ID and must provide home address.

How do I access my library card account online?

To access your library card account visit www.westchesterlibraries.org and click the tab for “Account/Catalog.” Once you are on that page click “Log In” at the top of the page.

How do I renew my items?

There are a few options for renewing your items:
Call the library
Stop by the library and ask the front desk
Sign in to your library card account at www.westchesterlibraries.org

How do I place and item on hold?

The Purchase Free Library offers e-readers to patrons for a loan period of 3 weeks. E-readers come with chargers and carrying tote. Patron is required to sign a release form upon check-out. Please view our e-reader policy for more details.

I forgot my card! Can I still check out items?

As long as you have a valid ID we can look up your library card number.

Do you have Wi-Fi?

Yes, we offer free Wi-Fi inside the library.

What happens if I return my items late?

Any item returned after its due date is subject to a late fee. Late fees are listed below:
Fines & Fees:

Books: $.20 per day
New Books: 2 week loan period
All other books: 3 week loan period

DVDs (Movies): $2.00 per day
Express DVDs: 7 day loan period (no renewals)
Limit 2 Express DVDs per family
All other DVDs: 7 day loan period
Limit 6 DVDs per family, not per card (including any express movies or series).

DVDs (TV Series): $2.00 per day
Express DVD Series: 14 day loan period (no renewals)
Limit 2 Express DVDs per family
All other DVD Series: 14 day loan period
Limit 6 DVD per family, not per card.

Does the library take books or DVDs for donation?

Yes, patrons can drop off books or DVDs in our donation bins located outside the front of the library. We do not except encyclopedias, old magazines, cassette or VHS tapes, home appliances, or clothes.

If you have over 10 items to donate please do not donate them all at once. If you need suggestions for other organizations to donate to please ask the front desk and we will gladly give you some recommendations.
