Frequently Asked Questions

  • If you live, work, or attend college in Purchase, Harrison, or West Harrison, you are eligible for a card.

    Library Card Requirements:

    For Purchase/Harrison/West Harrison Residents — Photo ID and proof of address.

    For Purchase Employees — Photo ID, proof of Purchase employment, and proof of home address.

    For Purchase Students — A parent or guardian must fill out a children’s library card application for all students aged 15 and under.  For ages 16 to 22, students must have a photo ID and/or college ID, and must provide proof of home address.

  • To access your library card account, visit www.westchesterlibraries.org and click the “Account/Catalog” tab.  Once you arrive on that page, click “Log In” in the top right-hand corner.

  • * There are three options for renewing your items:
    (1) Call the library.
    (2) Stop by the library and ask the front desk.
    (3) Sign in to your library card account at www.westchesterlibraries.org.

  • As long as you have a valid ID, we can enter your full name into the integrated library system (ILS) to look up your library card number.

  • Yes, we offer free WiFi inside the library.

  • The Purchase Free Library is a fine-free library.

    We charge fines for the following: damaged items, lost items, lost/damaged library cards, and lost/damaged/late museum passes.

  • The library does not accept donated books or DVDs, but please note the following organizations that take these items:
